Our panelists, Rama Kavaliauskas, President of Sterling Engineering, Rick Curry, Director HR & Organizational Development of Blistex, Maryellen Skerik, VP Finance of North Central College, and Jaclyn Jackson, Senior HR Director of Helping Hand Center. Rama Kavaliauskas, President, Sterling Engineering

Rama Kavaliauskas joined Sterling in 1997 as a Business Development Manager providing technical workforce and engineering service solutions to the Midwest manufacturing market. Rama was the top revenue generator for multiple years because of her client-centric approach to the business. Within 2 years, she was promoted to a leadership position to manage sales efforts. In 2005, she joined the executive team as Vice President of Sales and was responsible to drive new business development, competitive market share expansion, and customer relationship development. In 2007, Rama was promoted to President of Sterling Engineering to provide leadership and direction to drive the company’s mission, goals and objectives. Today, Sterling Engineering is recognized as a top tier engineering services provider with over 600 active consultants nationally and internationally. As President, she is focused in developing and implementing strategic and tactical plans related to delivering engineering/design expertise and technical staff augmentation solutions. Rama is a graduate of Cleveland State University she holds a degree in Business Administration. For several years, she served as a Board Member for the Valley Industrial Association and is currently a Board Member for the Illinois Search and Staffing Association.


Ricardo D. Curry, SPHR, Director of Human Resources & Organizational Development for Blistex Inc

Rick Curry serves as the Director, Human Resources & Organizational Development for Blistex Inc. The scope of his duties includes international staffing, employee relations, total compensation, health & retirement plans, environmental health & safety, HR technology, and management development. His professional background is a unique list of HR projects and achievements. Rick has led HR department start-ups, company acquisitions, Employee Stock Ownership Plans and mentored several successful HR professionals. His labor relations experience includes both union contract negotiations, and multiple successful union-avoidance campaigns. At Aurora University in Illinois, he served as Adjunct Instructor for the HRIS Implementation course within the MBA-HR program. Rick was most recently the Vice President of Global Human Resources for Act II Jewelry, LLC (d/b/a lia Sophia®). As a member of lia sophia’s global Executive Committee, he functioned as the Human Resources Business Partner to create and implement HR initiatives to advance the Company’s mission and strategy. In this role he created the HR infrastructure for operations in Canada, China, Germany, Switzerland, the UK, and USA. In prior job roles, Rick led the Human Resources functions for NICOR National and Alexander Lumber Co.; and served as the Director, Human Resources for divisions within Fortune 500 organizations such as Hilton Hotels, Budget Rent a Car, and United Airlines/Mileage Plus. He is a past President of the Board of Directors for the Fox Valley Human Resources Association in Aurora, IL. Rick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from DePaul University, and a Masters’ Degree in Organizational Development from the University of West Florida. He is a Senior Human Resources Professional designated through the Human Resources Certification Institute.


Maryellen Skerik, Vice President for Finance, North Central College

Maryellen Skerik, Vice President for Finance at North Central College oversees accounting, student accounts, accounts payable, human resources, procurement, risk management/insurance, and legal affairs. Prior to joining North Central College, Maryellen was most recently with The International Association of Lions Clubs (Lions Clubs). She joined Lions Clubs in 2003 and served as the finance division manager for two years before being promoted to treasurer with oversight of all financial operations, human resource management, information technology and sale and distribution of branded merchandise. Skerik has extensive experience within a variety of financial capacities encompassing responsibilities for business planning (strategic and tactical), financial controls, operations, cost savings, process improvements and research/analytics. She has worked in privately held diversified manufacturing environments with worldwide reporting units as well as global not-for-profits.


Jaclyn Jackson, M.B.A., MHRM, SHRM-CP, Senior Director Human Resources Helping Hand Center Inc.

Jaclyn Jackson is an experienced Human Resource Management professional in the Chicagoland area, with a 10+ year experience in Human Resources and Organizational Development. She has spent the last 15 years in the non for profit sector as she loves advancing nonprofit missions while facing a wide range of challenges. Jaclyn is currently the Senior Director of Human Resources at Helping Hand Center in Countryside, IL. Helping Hand Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and adults with disabilities in suburban Cook County and greater Chicagoland communities. At Helping Hand Center, Informational Technology, and Marketing also falls under her leadership. She is a Certified Professional Member of SHRM. Jaclyn has a Masters of Human Resource Management from Keller Graduate School of Management as well as an MBA from Keller Graduate School. She currently holds 3 board positions for IL Small College Placement Association, NHRM Mutual Insurance Company, and HRA Oakbrook, where she is the College Relations Chair. She enjoys working with and developing up and coming young professionals. In her spare time she considers herself to be a foodie, but really only enjoys eating.
